- No price risk
- Interac (stablecoins come close)
- Higher per-transaction limits
- Often crypto
- Available at Ontario-regulated sites

Searches for a crypto casino in Canada have grown alongside the long-standing popularity of Interac casinos in Canada. The two methods suit different players. Interac is the familiar, bank-linked default that keeps everything in Canadian dollars. Crypto appeals to players who already hold digital assets and want quick, high-limit withdrawals, and who are comfortable managing wallets, networks and price swings themselves.

How each method works
Interac e-Transfer
Interac is Canada's domestic payment network, owned by a group of banks and credit unions. At a casino, you usually pick Interac in the cashier, log in to your bank through the payment processor's secure page or send an e-Transfer to the address shown, and the funds land almost immediately. Withdrawals come back as an e-Transfer to the email or phone number registered with your bank, often by Autodeposit. Your card or account number is never shared with the casino. See our Interac casinos and Interac e-Transfer guides.
Crypto payments
With crypto, the casino gives you a deposit address for a specific coin and network. You send the coin from an exchange or your own wallet, the transaction is recorded on the blockchain, and the casino credits your balance after a set number of confirmations. Withdrawals go to an address you provide. Bitcoin blocks arrive about every 10 minutes, Ethereum's every 12 seconds or so and Litecoin's about every 2.5 minutes, which is why deposit speeds differ by coin. Our crypto hub compares each coin.
Speed and limits
Crypto's speed advantage is real once a casino approves a withdrawal, and many crypto casinos automate approvals for verified accounts. Interac is still quick, often same-day, but each bank sets its own e-Transfer limits for sending and receiving, and casinos or their processors set per-transaction caps. A large win may therefore be split across several transfers or paid over several days. For typical amounts, both are fast enough; for very large sums, crypto's higher caps can matter.
What slows both methods is the same: pending periods, identity checks on a first or large withdrawal, and bonus wagering still in progress. Compare fast Interac withdrawals and fast crypto withdrawals, and see our limits guide.
Real cost of each method
Interac costs are simple: usually nothing at the casino, and possibly a small per-transfer fee depending on your bank plan. Crypto costs come in layers. A worked round trip shows where they add up:
- Buying: an exchange fee or spread when you convert CAD to crypto; instant-buy buttons usually cost more than the platform's order book.
- Sending to the casino: a network fee, which depends on the coin and congestion, not the amount.
- Casino side: usually no deposit fee, but some casinos charge a withdrawal fee or pass on network costs.
- Returning to the exchange: another network fee on the way back.
- Selling: another spread or fee when you convert back to CAD, then an Interac or bank withdrawal from the exchange.
- Price movement: between deposit and sale, the coin's CAD value can rise or fall.
For a single small deposit, those layers can outweigh any speed benefit. Stablecoins like Tether remove most of the price risk but not the fees, and cheaper networks or coins such as Litecoin cut the transfer cost. Our fees guide breaks down each charge.
Privacy, safety and verification
Interac payments are tied to your bank account and name, which makes verification straightforward and leaves a clear record. Crypto payments do not reveal bank details, but they are not anonymous: every transfer sits on a public ledger, and Canadian exchanges must verify your identity under FINTRAC rules. Crypto casinos also commonly run KYC checks, especially at withdrawal thresholds. See our KYC guide.
The safety trade-off is about who carries the risk. With Interac, your bank's security and fraud monitoring sit around the payment. With crypto, you are responsible for addresses, networks and keys, and a mistake cannot be undone.
- Wrong network: sending USDT on one network to an address for another can lose the funds.
- Wrong address: always copy a fresh address from the cashier and check the first and last characters.
- Phishing: never share a seed phrase; casino or exchange staff will not ask for it.
- Interac scams: only send e-Transfers to the details shown in your own casino cashier, and be wary of anyone asking you to pay by e-Transfer outside it.
Our payment security guide has more practical steps.
Moving from Interac to crypto
Most Canadians who use crypto at casinos still start with Interac, because that is how they fund an exchange account. A typical path looks like this:
- Open and verify an account at a crypto trading platform registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators.
- Fund it by Interac e-Transfer and buy the coin the casino accepts.
- Withdraw the coin to the casino deposit address on the correct network, or first to your own wallet if the platform restricts gambling transfers.
- When cashing out, send the coin back to the platform, sell for CAD and withdraw to your bank by Interac or bank transfer.
Each step can add a fee or a hold, so this route makes the most sense for players who already use an exchange or move larger amounts. Note that some Canadian banks block credit card purchases of crypto, and some Canadian platforms do not list certain stablecoins, so check what your platform supports first.

Regulation and where each is accepted
Ontario-regulated casinos accept Interac but not crypto. Alberta opened its own regulated market in July 2026, and provincial lottery sites such as PlayNow and PlayAlberta are bank-linked. Crypto casinos serving Canadians are typically licensed offshore, for example in Curaçao, Anjouan or Kahnawake, and set their own rules on limits, fees and verification. Read each casino's licence and terms before depositing; see our Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia pages. This is general information, not legal advice.
Bonuses and games
Interac deposits are usually eligible for welcome offers. Crypto casinos often run their own crypto-specific bonuses, cashback and tournaments, valued at the fiat equivalent of your deposit. Some casinos exclude particular methods from offers, so read the terms. Crypto casinos also tend to add in-house games such as crash, dice and Plinko, often marketed as provably fair. Our bonus and payment method guide explains the rules.
Taxes
Recreational gambling winnings are generally not taxed in Canada, whichever method you use. With crypto, the Canada Revenue Agency treats the coins themselves as property: selling or spending crypto that has gained value can create a taxable gain, even if the money came from casino winnings. Keep records of purchase prices and dates. See our taxes guide and ask a tax professional about your situation.
Which should you choose?
- Choose Interac if you want CAD from start to finish, simple fees and the widest choice of casinos, including regulated ones.
- Choose crypto if you already use an exchange, want the fastest payouts and higher limits, and accept price risk and irreversible transfers.
- Consider stablecoins if you like crypto's speed but not the volatility.
- Use both at casinos that offer them: Interac for everyday amounts, crypto for larger withdrawals, if the casino's closed-loop rules allow it.
Pros
- Interac: familiar, CAD only, bank-linked

Frequently asked questions
Is crypto faster than Interac for casino withdrawals?
Usually, once the casino approves the request: crypto often arrives in minutes, while Interac can take from minutes to a business day or two.
Are crypto casinos legal in Canada?
Crypto casinos are typically licensed outside Canada and are not provincially regulated. Ontario-regulated sites do not accept crypto. This is general information, not legal advice.
Which is cheaper, Interac or crypto?
Interac is usually cheaper for typical amounts because crypto adds exchange spreads and network fees in both directions. Crypto can be cost-effective for larger, less frequent transfers.
Do crypto casinos still ask for ID?
Often, yes, especially before a first or large withdrawal. Canadian exchanges you use to buy and sell crypto always verify your identity.
Why is my Interac casino withdrawal split into several payments?
Banks and casino processors cap e-Transfer amounts, so larger withdrawals may be sent in parts or over several days.
What is the best crypto for casino payments in Canada?
It depends on your priorities. Bitcoin is the most widely accepted; stablecoins avoid price swings; Litecoin is often cheap and quick to send.
Can I deposit with Interac and withdraw in crypto?
Some casinos allow it, but many apply closed-loop rules that return funds to the deposit method first. Check the cashier terms.
Are crypto winnings taxed in Canada?
Recreational gambling winnings are generally not taxed, but gains on the crypto itself may be. See our taxes guide and a tax professional.
