Ethereum casinos in Canada accept ETH, the native coin of the Ethereum network, and often a range of tokens built on it. For players, the attractions are quicker confirmations than Bitcoin and broad support in crypto cashiers. The challenges are gas fees that rise with demand and the growing number of networks that can carry ETH, each with its own address format and rules.

What is Ethereum?
Ethereum is a public, programmable blockchain launched in 2015 and co-founded by Vitalik Buterin. Its native coin is ether (ETH); tiny amounts are counted in gwei (one billionth of an ETH), which is the unit wallets use to show gas prices. Since The Merge in September 2022, Ethereum has run on proof of stake: validators propose a new block roughly every 12 seconds instead of miners competing for it.
Because Ethereum runs smart contracts, it also hosts thousands of tokens that follow the ERC-20 standard, including the stablecoins USDT and USDC. That is why a casino's crypto cashier often lists "ETH" next to several tokens that travel on the same network and use the same 0x addresses. Our Tether page covers USDT separately.
Confirmations and deposit speed
A deposit appears in a block within seconds of being sent, but casinos wait for a number of further blocks (confirmations) before crediting it. Requirements vary: some cashiers credit after a handful of confirmations, others wait longer for larger sums. With ~12-second blocks, that usually means 1 to 15 minutes. Full finality on Ethereum takes about two epochs, roughly 13 minutes, which is why a cautious casino may take that long.
Why some casinos accept ETH and others don't
Crypto payments cannot be charged back, settle without a card processor and work across borders, which suits internationally licensed casinos (for example under Curaçao, Anjouan or Kahnawake licences). Regulated markets are different: operators registered with iGaming Ontario do not accept crypto, while provincial lottery sites and Alberta-registered operators set their own payment options, so check the cashier before assuming crypto is available. See our Ontario page for the regulated alternatives.
ETH, Layer 2s and look-alike coins
"ETH" in a cashier does not always mean the same thing. Before you send, make sure the asset and the network both match what the casino lists.
What you might see in a crypto cashier| Asset / network | What it is | Can you send it to an ETH deposit address? |
|---|
| ETH on Ethereum mainnet (ERC-20 network) | Native ether on the main chain | Yes, if the cashier says Ethereum / ERC-20 |
| ETH on Arbitrum, Optimism or Base | Ether on a Layer 2 rollup that settles to Ethereum; much lower fees | Only if the cashier lists that exact Layer 2 |
| Wrapped ETH (WETH) | An ERC-20 token representing ETH 1:1, used mainly in DeFi | Usually no; it is a token, not native ETH |
| Ethereum Classic (ETC) | A separate coin from the chain that split off in 2016 | No; different coin and network |
| "ETH" on BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20) | A pegged token on another chain with the same 0x format | Only if the cashier lists BEP-20 |
| USDT / USDC (ERC-20) | Stablecoins pegged to the US dollar on Ethereum | Only to the casino's USDT or USDC address |
All of these use 0x addresses, so your wallet will not stop you from sending on the wrong network. Funds sent on an unsupported network or as the wrong token may be lost or need a manual recovery that the casino is not obliged to perform.
Buying ETH in Canada
Most Canadians buy ETH on a crypto trading platform registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA). Kraken, Coinbase, Wealthsimple, Bitbuy, Newton and Shakepay are examples that have operated in Canada; check the CSA's list of registered platforms for current status. You fund the account in CAD, typically by Interac e-Transfer or bank transfer, then buy ETH.
- Instant-buy vs order book: "quick buy" buttons are convenient but usually build a wider spread or higher fee into the price than the platform's advanced trading screen.
- Withdrawal fee: platforms charge a fee to send ETH out, and some set a minimum withdrawal amount.
- Gambling transfers: some platforms ask what a transfer is for or restrict sending to gambling sites, so moving ETH to your own wallet first is common.
- Casino on-ramps: some crypto casinos embed a third-party "buy crypto" widget in the cashier. It is quicker but card-funded purchases usually cost more than buying on a Canadian platform.
- Currency conversion: if your card or platform charges FX on a USD-priced purchase, add that to the cost.
Choosing an Ethereum wallet
Wallet types for casino payments| Wallet type | Examples | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|
| Exchange (custodial) wallet | Your trading platform account | Buying and cashing out to CAD | Platform may restrict gambling transfers; you don't hold the keys |
| Mobile / browser wallet | MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Exodus | Everyday deposits; QR-code payments | Phishing sites and malicious token approvals |
| Hardware wallet | Ledger, Trezor | Storing larger balances offline | Slower for frequent small deposits |
Whatever you use, write your seed phrase (recovery phrase) on paper and keep it offline; anyone who has it controls your ETH. Your private keys never need to be shared with a casino. Make sure the wallet supports the network the casino uses, and keep a little extra ETH for gas.
How to deposit ETH at a casino
- Open the cashier, choose Ethereum and check which network it lists (mainnet / ERC-20 or a named Layer 2).
- Note the minimum deposit; amounts below it are often not credited.
- Copy the 0x address or scan the QR code with your mobile wallet.
- Check the first and last characters of the pasted address against the cashier.
- Select the same network in your wallet, enter the amount and review the gas fee.
- Send, then wait for the required confirmations; the cashier usually shows the deposit as pending first.
- If it has not arrived after an hour, look up the transaction hash on a block explorer before contacting support.
Common deposit mistakes
- Wrong network: sending on Arbitrum, Base or BNB Smart Chain to a mainnet-only address.
- Wrong asset: sending WETH or a stablecoin to the ETH address.
- Below the minimum: small deposits under the cashier's minimum may never be credited.
- Reused old address: some casinos rotate deposit addresses; always copy a fresh one.
- Sending from a smart-contract wallet: some cashiers do not detect deposits made by contracts (internal transactions). Use a regular wallet address if the casino says so.
- Not enough ETH for gas: the transaction fails or stays pending.
Withdrawing Ethereum
Choose ETH in the withdrawal section and paste a receiving address from your own wallet, on the network the casino pays out on. Expect identity checks (KYC) before the first withdrawal or larger sums, and some casinos let you whitelist addresses or require two-factor authentication. After approval, the transfer usually lands within minutes. To get dollars, send the ETH to your trading platform, sell it and withdraw CAD to your bank. Our KYC guide and how to withdraw page explain the checks; fast crypto withdrawal casinos compares approval times.
Tracking a transaction on Etherscan
Every transfer has a transaction hash (TxID). Paste it into Etherscan for mainnet, or the matching explorer for a Layer 2 (such as Arbiscan for Arbitrum), to see whether it succeeded, how many confirmations it has and which address received it. If a casino says a withdrawal was sent, ask for the hash; if your deposit shows as successful on the explorer but not in the cashier, send the hash to support.
Gas fees explained
The fee for an Ethereum transaction is gas used × gas price. A plain ETH transfer uses 21,000 gas units; sending an ERC-20 token uses more because it calls a smart contract. The price per unit, shown in gwei, has two parts since the 2021 London upgrade (EIP-1559): a base fee set by network demand, which is burned, and an optional priority tip to validators. Your wallet estimates both for you.
Gas does not depend on how much ETH you send, so it weighs most on small deposits. At quiet times a mainnet transfer can cost very little; during busy periods it can rise sharply. Layer 2 networks are usually far cheaper, but only help if the casino supports them. Casinos may also charge their own withdrawal fee or pass on the network cost, so read the cashier terms. See our fees guide for the full picture.
ETH limits and payout times at casinos we list
Casinos set their own minimum and maximum ETH amounts, and many also cap withdrawals per day, week or month. The table shows what we recorded for some crypto-friendly casinos that list Ethereum; figures change, so confirm them in the cashier.

Games at Ethereum casinos
ETH balances can be used across the usual lobby: video slots and jackpots, blackjack, roulette and baccarat, and live dealer tables from studios such as Evolution. Crypto-focused casinos also add their own originals: crash games, Plinko, dice, mines and similar fast games, many marketed as provably fair. Provably fair games publish a hashed server seed before each round and let you combine it with your own client seed to check afterwards that the result was not changed. Some casinos show balances and bets in ETH; others convert to a fiat display currency.
Ethereum casino bonuses
Crypto casinos often run welcome packages, reloads, cashback and tournaments that accept ETH deposits. Check a few points before opting in:
- Qualifying minimum: the deposit needed for the bonus is often higher than the cashier minimum.
- Wagering and max bet: crypto bonuses carry the same wagering, max-bet and game-weighting rules as fiat ones.
- Valuation: the bonus is usually calculated on the fiat value of your ETH at the time of deposit.
- Exclusions: some offers exclude certain coins or networks; read the terms.
Our guide to bonuses and payment methods explains how the method you choose can affect eligibility.
How safe are Ethereum casinos?
The Ethereum network itself is secure: transactions are cryptographically signed and recorded on a public ledger anyone can audit. The risks are elsewhere. Crypto transfers are irreversible, there is no chargeback, and the casino holds your balance once it is deposited. Check the licence, look for an SSL-secured cashier, prefer casinos whose games are tested by independent labs such as eCOGRA, iTech Labs or GLI, and read our reviews' reputation notes before depositing. On the privacy side, the blockchain is public: your name is not on it, but every transfer between your addresses can be traced.
- Back up your seed phrase offline and never share it with anyone, including "support" staff.
- Do not connect your wallet to unknown sites or approve unexpected token permissions.
- Ignore direct messages offering help with a stuck deposit; they are a common scam.
- Send a small test transaction before a large one at any new casino.
- Turn on two-factor authentication on both your casino and exchange accounts.
Pros
- Faster confirmations than Bitcoin
- No bank blocks or card declines
- Widely accepted, along with ERC-20 stablecoins
- Every payment can be tracked on a block explorer
- Layer 2 options cut fees at casinos that support them
Cons
- Gas fees can be high at busy times
- Several networks and tokens share the same 0x address format
- High price volatility
- Irreversible: no chargebacks on mistakes
- Not available at Ontario-regulated casinos
Ethereum vs other payment methods
ETH compared| Method | Typical deposit time | Fees | Volatility |
|---|
| Ethereum | 1–15 minutes | Gas, varies with demand | High |
| Bitcoin | 10–60 minutes | Varies with congestion | High |
| Litecoin | A few minutes | Usually low | High |
| Tether (USDT) | Depends on network | Depends on network | Low |
| Interac | Instant | Usually free for the player | None (CAD) |
| E-wallets (MuchBetter, Skrill) | Instant | Possible wallet fees | None if held in CAD |
If you would rather avoid crypto, Interac is the most widely used option for Canadian players, and MuchBetter or cards work at many of the same casinos. Compare every coin on our crypto hub or see Interac vs crypto.
Taxes and responsible play
Recreational gambling wins are generally not taxed in Canada, but selling or spending ETH that has risen in value may create a capital gain. Keep records of what you paid for your ETH; our taxes guide has more, and a tax professional can confirm your situation.
Crypto makes it easy to deposit quickly and lose track of spending in dollars. Decide a CAD budget before you play, use the casino's deposit limits and cool-off tools, and reach out to support services such as ConnexOntario or Gamblers Anonymous if gambling stops being fun. Our responsible gambling page lists tools and helplines across Canada.
Frequently asked questions
Can Canadians use Ethereum at online casinos?
Yes, at internationally licensed casinos that accept ETH. Ontario-registered operators and provincial sites do not accept crypto.
How long does an ETH casino deposit take?
Usually 1–15 minutes, depending on network demand and how many confirmations the casino requires.
Why was my Ethereum deposit not credited?
The most common reasons are the wrong network, sending a token instead of ETH, an amount below the minimum or a deposit from a smart-contract wallet. Check the transaction hash on Etherscan and send it to support.
What are gas fees and how much are they?
Gas is the fee for processing a transaction on Ethereum, paid in ETH. A simple transfer uses 21,000 gas units; the price per unit changes with demand, so check your wallet's estimate before sending.
Can I deposit ETH from Arbitrum, Optimism or Base?
Only if the casino lists that specific Layer 2. Sending on an unsupported network can result in lost funds.
Is Ethereum better than Interac for casino payments?
ETH avoids bank blocks and pays out quickly at crypto casinos, but adds gas fees, volatility and irreversible transfers. Interac is simpler if you want to stay in CAD.
Can I use Ethereum on mobile casinos?
Yes. Most crypto casinos show a QR code for the deposit address, which you can scan with a mobile wallet such as MetaMask or Trust Wallet.
Are Ethereum casino winnings taxed?
Recreational gambling winnings are generally not taxed in Canada, but gains on the ETH itself may be. Consult a tax professional.
