Searches for a PayPal casino in Canada are common, and so is the frustration that follows: the option often is not there. PayPal only processes gambling payments for merchants it has approved in advance, and it tends to approve operators that hold a licence for the player's own jurisdiction. That makes it far less common in casino cashiers than Interac or cards. Where it is available, it gives you instant deposits, quick withdrawals and a layer of separation between your bank and the casino. PayPal is a trademark of its owner; we are not affiliated.

What is PayPal?
PayPal is a US-based online payments company that started in 1998 and became a household name as eBay's checkout option before becoming independent again in 2015. It operates in Canada through a local entity and lets you hold a balance in CAD, link a Canadian bank account or card, and pay merchants by logging in rather than typing card details. For casino players, the appeal is simple: the operator never sees your bank or card number, and the same account can receive winnings.
PayPal's gambling policy
PayPal's acceptable use rules require prior written approval before a merchant can accept payments for games of chance. In practice, PayPal looks for a licence that covers the players the merchant serves, which is why it appears most often at operators regulated in the player's own market. Offshore casinos licensed in Curaçao, Anjouan or Kahnawake that take players from across Canada rarely qualify, and approvals can be withdrawn without notice. A casino that offered PayPal last year may not offer it now.
Where you can use PayPal in Canada
Availability depends heavily on your province, because Canada has several gambling markets rather than one.
PayPal availability by market (general picture; always check the cashier)| Market | Who runs or regulates it | PayPal outlook |
|---|
| Ontario | iGaming Ontario operators, regulated by the AGCO; PlayOLG | Offered by some registered operators, not all |
| Alberta | PlayAlberta plus AGLC-registered private operators (regulated market launched July 2026) | Possible at some operators in the new market; check each cashier |
| British Columbia and Manitoba | PlayNow (BCLC and Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries) | Depends on the provincial site's current cashier |
| Quebec | Espacejeux (Loto-Québec) | Depends on the provincial site's current cashier |
| Atlantic provinces | Atlantic Lottery (ALC) | Bank-based methods are the norm |
| Offshore sites serving all of Canada | Curaçao, Kahnawake, Anjouan, Malta licences | Rare; PayPal seldom approves these merchants for Canada |
If you are in Ontario, see our Ontario page; Alberta players can read our Alberta page for how the new market works. Be cautious with any offshore site that advertises PayPal but does not show it in the logged-in cashier.
Never pay a casino through PayPal's "friends and family" option or to a personal PayPal address. That is not a genuine merchant payment, it usually breaks PayPal's terms, and you would lose any recourse if the money disappears.
PayPal casinos in our database
Of the brands we track, only a handful currently record PayPal as a payment method, which reflects how selective PayPal is. They include GGPoker (poker, with its Ontario site regulated by iGaming Ontario/AGCO), Jackpot City Casino (Kahnawake licence, with a separate Ontario site) and MilkyWay Casino. PayPal may only be offered on one version of a brand or for some account types, so confirm it in the cashier after you register. Our casino finder lets you filter by other payment methods if PayPal is missing.
How to make a PayPal deposit at a casino
- Verify your PayPal account and link a Canadian bank account or card; a verified account has higher sending limits.
- Register at the casino using exactly the same legal name as on PayPal.
- Open the cashier, choose PayPal and enter an amount at or above the minimum.
- Log in to PayPal in the pop-up or app window and pick the funding source (balance, bank or card).
- Review the amount and currency, then approve.
- The casino balance normally updates within seconds; keep the PayPal transaction ID in case of a query.
If PayPal shows the payment in another currency, stop and check: the casino may be processing in USD or EUR, and PayPal will add a conversion spread. Choosing CAD as your casino account currency avoids this where possible.
How to withdraw to PayPal
- Complete the casino's identity checks (photo ID, proof of address, sometimes proof of the PayPal account).
- Go to the cashier's withdrawal section and select PayPal; most casinos require you to have deposited with it first.
- Enter the amount, staying within the casino's minimum and maximum.
- Wait for the pending and approval stage, which is set by the casino.
- Once released, the money appears in your PayPal balance, usually quickly.
- Transfer it to your linked bank account if you want it out of PayPal.
Most of the waiting happens at the casino, not at PayPal. Some operators hold withdrawals as "pending" for 24 hours or more and only process on business days. Your first withdrawal is the slowest because of verification; see our KYC guide and our fast withdrawal PayPal page for typical timings.
Closed-loop rules
Casinos usually pay winnings back to the method you deposited with, up to the deposited amount, before allowing another method. If you deposited by card and then try to withdraw to PayPal, expect to be asked to use the card route first. Plan your deposit method with your preferred payout route in mind.
PayPal fees for casino payments
Casinos rarely charge for PayPal. The costs, when they arise, come from PayPal itself. Its Canadian fee page changes from time to time, so treat this as a map of what to check rather than a price list:
Where PayPal costs can appear| Situation | Usual outcome | What to check |
|---|
| Deposit in CAD from balance or bank | Usually no fee to you | That the casino charges in CAD |
| Deposit funded by credit card | Usually no PayPal fee, but your card issuer may treat it as a cash advance | Your card's terms for gambling or cash-like transactions |
| Casino processes in USD/EUR | PayPal converts and adds a spread of a few percent | The rate PayPal shows before you approve |
| Withdrawal from casino to PayPal | Usually free on the casino side | Casino limits on free withdrawals |
| PayPal balance to bank (standard) | Usually free; takes a few business days | PayPal's current Canadian fee page |
| PayPal balance to bank or debit card (instant) | A percentage fee with a cap | The fee shown before you confirm |
The currency spread is the cost most players miss, because it is built into the exchange rate rather than shown as a separate line. Over many deposits and withdrawals it adds up. Our fees guide shows how to estimate it.
Limits
Two sets of limits apply. PayPal sets sending limits by account status, so a new or unverified account can hit a ceiling quickly; verifying your identity and linking a bank lifts most of them. The casino then sets its own per-transaction minimum and maximum and, often, daily, weekly or monthly withdrawal caps. Regulated operators also let you set your own deposit limits in the account settings. See our limits guide.
PayPal and casino bonuses
PayPal deposits are less often excluded from welcome offers than Skrill or Neteller deposits, but there is no general rule: some casinos exclude all e-wallets. Before you deposit, check the promotion terms for:
- Eligible payment methods for the qualifying deposit.
- Minimum qualifying deposit, which may be higher than the cashier minimum.
- Wagering requirement and whether it applies to the bonus only or to deposit plus bonus.
- Maximum bet while the bonus is active and game contribution (slots usually count fully, table games less).
- Time limit to complete wagering and any cap on winnings from free spins or no-deposit offers.
Our bonus and payment method guide covers the common exclusion patterns.
Using PayPal on mobile
PayPal works the same way on a phone: choosing it in a mobile casino or casino app hands you to the PayPal app or a secure login page, and you approve with your password, a passkey or the biometric login you set up in the PayPal app. Keep the PayPal app updated and avoid approving payments on shared or public devices.
Is PayPal safe for online casinos?
PayPal adds a buffer between the casino and your bank: the operator sees your PayPal email, not your account or card number. PayPal also runs fraud monitoring and offers two-step verification, which you should turn on. The fact that a casino passed PayPal's merchant review is a modest positive signal, but it is not a substitute for checking the licence.
Do not count on buyer protection for gambling. Purchase protection programmes are designed for goods and services, and gambling transactions are generally not eligible, so a PayPal dispute is unlikely to reverse a losing deposit. Our chargebacks guide and payment security guide explain what is realistic.
Red flags at a casino claiming to take PayPal
- The PayPal logo appears on the home page but not in the logged-in cashier.
- You are redirected to an unfamiliar payment page that asks for your PayPal password.
- Support asks you to send money to a personal PayPal account or as a gift.
- No licence number or regulator is shown in the site footer.
Pros
- Familiar brand most Canadians already use
- Instant deposits and quick payouts once approved
- No card or bank details shared with the casino
- Usually two-way at casinos that offer it
- Strong account security options, including two-step login
Cons
- Accepted at relatively few casinos serving Canada
- Mostly limited to regulated markets
- Currency conversion spread if the casino does not use CAD
- Merchant approvals can change without notice
- Buyer protection generally does not cover gambling
PayPal vs alternatives

| MuchBetter | Moderate | Yes | Often within 24 h | App-based approvals |
| Apple Pay / Google Pay | Growing | Usually not | N/A | Deposit-only at most casinos |
The closest substitutes are Interac e-Transfer for bank-based convenience and Skrill, Neteller or MuchBetter for an e-wallet experience. Our e-wallets hub compares them all, and Interac vs PayPal goes head to head. French readers can see /fr/paypal/.
Taxes and responsible play
Recreational gambling winnings are generally not taxable in Canada, whether they land in PayPal or your bank; our taxes guide covers the exceptions. Because PayPal makes deposits so easy, set a deposit limit at the casino before you start, review your PayPal activity regularly and keep play affordable. Our responsible gambling page lists tools and support organizations in every province.
Frequently asked questions
Are there PayPal casinos in Canada?
Yes, but relatively few. PayPal only works with gambling merchants it has approved, mostly regulated operators, so always check the logged-in cashier.
Is PayPal accepted in my province?
It depends on the operator rather than the province alone. Ontario's registered operators and Alberta's new regulated market are the likeliest places to find it; offshore sites rarely offer it.
Can I withdraw casino winnings to PayPal?
Usually yes, at casinos that accept PayPal deposits. Funds typically reach PayPal within a day of the casino approving the payout.
Does PayPal charge fees for casino payments?
CAD payments from your balance or bank are usually free. Costs come from currency conversion if the casino uses another currency and from instant transfers out of PayPal.
Can I get a casino bonus with a PayPal deposit?
Often, but not always. Some casinos exclude all e-wallets from bonuses, so read the promotion's eligible payment methods first.
Why does a casino advertise PayPal but not show it in the cashier?
PayPal may be offered only on a brand's regulated site, only to some regions, or may have been withdrawn. Rely on what the logged-in cashier shows.
Is PayPal safe for gambling?
PayPal keeps your bank details from the casino and supports two-step login. It does not make an unlicensed casino safe, and buyer protection generally does not cover gambling.
What is the best alternative if a casino has no PayPal?
Interac e-Transfer is the most common bank-based option in Canada, while Skrill, Neteller and MuchBetter offer a similar e-wallet experience.
