An Interac e-Transfer casino accepts deposits sent through the same e-Transfer feature you use to split rent or pay a friend, and often pays winnings back the same way. You do not open a separate wallet or share card numbers: money leaves your chequing account, is matched to your casino account by a payment processor and lands in your balance in CAD. This page explains the mechanics step by step: Request Money, manual transfers, Autodeposit, bank fees and limits, and what to do when a transfer goes missing. For choosing between Interac casinos overall, see our main Interac casinos guide.

What is an e-Transfer casino?
Any casino whose cashier lists Interac e-Transfer for deposits, and ideally withdrawals, counts as an e-Transfer casino. Because almost every Canadian bank and credit union supports e-Transfer, it has become the most common way to fund a casino account in Canadian dollars, both on Ontario-regulated sites and at internationally licensed casinos that accept Canadians.
Casinos rarely receive e-Transfers directly. A licensed payment processor (Gigadat is a name many players see) supplies the recipient details, receives your transfer and credits your balance automatically. That is why the recipient name in your banking app is usually not the casino's, and why the instructions can look slightly different from one cashier to the next.
How an e-Transfer casino payment moves
- You start a deposit in the casino cashier, which passes the request to its processor.
- Either the processor sends a Request Money notice to your bank, or you send an e-Transfer to the processor's address with a reference.
- Your bank authorises the payment and the Interac network routes it to the processor's financial institution.
- The processor matches the payment to your casino account using the request, the reference or your registered email.
- The casino credits your balance, typically within seconds to a few minutes.
Key e-Transfer terms
e-Transfer features you will meet at a casino| Term | What it means | Why it matters for casino payments |
|---|
| Request Money | The recipient asks you for a payment; you accept it in your banking app | The simplest deposit route: no reference to copy |
| Autodeposit | Incoming transfers go straight into a chosen account | Payouts arrive without a security question |
| Security question | Set by the sender when Autodeposit is not used | Needed to accept a payout manually |
| Reference / memo | Text attached to a manual transfer | Lets the processor match your deposit |
| Reference number | Unique ID of each transfer, shown in your banking app | Quote it to support if a payment goes missing |
| Expiry | Unaccepted transfers expire after 30 days | An ignored payout notice is returned to the casino's processor |
How to make an e-Transfer casino deposit
Option 1: Request Money
- In the cashier, choose Interac e-Transfer and enter the amount in CAD.
- Enter the email or mobile number registered with your online banking, if asked.
- Open your banking app; a Request Money notice from the processor appears, usually within a minute.
- Check the amount and accept the request.
- Return to the casino; your balance normally updates within a few minutes.
Option 2: Sending the e-Transfer yourself
- In the cashier, choose Interac e-Transfer and note the recipient name, email address and reference code shown.
- In your banking app, add the recipient and start a new e-Transfer.
- Enter the exact amount and paste the reference code into the message field.
- If asked for a security question and answer, use the ones shown by the cashier.
- Confirm the payment and keep the e-Transfer reference number until the deposit is credited.
Copy the reference code exactly, send the exact amount and use only the details shown in the official cashier. A missing reference or a different amount is the most common reason an e-Transfer deposit is not credited automatically.
E-Transfer withdrawals and Autodeposit
Many e-Transfer casinos pay winnings back the same way. After you request a withdrawal and the casino approves it, the processor sends an e-Transfer to your registered email or mobile number.
- Pending review: commonly several hours to a couple of business days, during which some casinos let you cancel the request.
- Verification: your first payout usually requires ID and proof of address, and sometimes proof that the bank account is yours; see our KYC guide.
- Matching details: the email or phone number on your casino account should match the one registered for e-Transfer.
- Split payouts: large wins may arrive as several smaller transfers because of per-transaction caps on the processor or casino side.
- Accept promptly: without Autodeposit, a payout you do not accept within 30 days expires.
Setting up Autodeposit
Autodeposit is registered in your own banking app, usually under the Interac e-Transfer settings: you choose the email address or mobile number and the account where money should land. The exact steps vary by bank. One email or phone number can only be registered for Autodeposit at one account, and once it is active, incoming payouts are deposited automatically with no security question. It is the quickest way to receive casino winnings and removes the risk of an expired notice.
Bank wire for larger payouts
Some casinos offer a traditional bank wire for wins above their e-Transfer caps. Wires can handle large sums in one payment but are typically slower (often several business days) and can cost a flat fee from the casino, your bank or an intermediary bank. For everyday amounts, e-Transfer is usually faster and cheaper; compare all options on our fast withdrawal page and the banking hub.
Bank fees for e-Transfer
Casinos generally do not charge for e-Transfer deposits, and many process withdrawals for free, though some set a monthly number of free payouts. Receiving an e-Transfer is generally free. Sending fees depend on your bank and plan. The table summarises fees as banks have published them; they change, so confirm in your own banking app.
Published e-Transfer sending fees at selected banks (subject to change; check your account plan)| Bank | Sending fee as published |
|---|
| RBC | Free on personal chequing accounts; fee on savings accounts |
| TD | Per-transfer fee on some accounts (lower for transfers of C$100 or less); free on many plans |
| CIBC | Per-transfer fee unless included with the account; waived on several chequing accounts |
| BMO | Included in bank plans; per-transfer fee otherwise |
| Scotiabank | No extra fee; counts towards monthly included transactions |
| National Bank | Per-transfer fee unless included in a banking package |
| Desjardins | Included in transaction plans up to the plan limit |
| Tangerine, Simplii, EQ Bank, KOHO, Wealthsimple | No fee on eligible accounts |
E-Transfer limits
Every bank sets its own sending limits for e-Transfer, usually per transaction, per day, per week and per month, and these differ by account type and how long you have banked there. Some banks let you raise or lower them on request. The casino and its processor also set minimum and maximum deposits, so the effective ceiling is always the lowest of these. Casino minimums are commonly C$10–C$20; for lower entry points see Interac minimum-deposit casinos, and our limits guide explains each layer. If a deposit is declined, check your remaining limit in the banking app before contacting the casino.

Troubleshooting a stuck e-Transfer
- Deposit not credited after 30 minutes: check the transfer shows as completed in your banking app, then contact casino support with the e-Transfer reference number, amount and time sent.
- Wrong or missing reference: tell support straight away; the processor can often match the payment manually.
- Transfer declined: you may have reached your bank's sending limit, or your bank's fraud system may have paused the payment. Call your bank to check.
- Request Money never arrived: confirm the email or phone number you entered matches your online banking, and check that you have not opted out of requests.
- Payout not received: look in your spam folder for the notification, confirm the email on file, and remember unaccepted transfers expire after 30 days.
- Security question fails: answers are not case sensitive but must match; ask casino support for the correct answer rather than guessing repeatedly.
- Name mismatch: the bank account must be in the same name as the casino account, or the payment may be returned.
Interac itself does not hold funds and cannot trace a payment for you; problems are resolved by the processor and your bank using the transfer's reference number.
Is e-Transfer safe for gambling payments?
Every e-Transfer is authorised in your bank's app or website, behind your own password and any two-step verification, and the casino never sees your account number. The weak points are scams and mistakes. Fraudsters send convincing fake e-Transfer emails and texts, so open your banking app directly instead of following links in notifications. Only send to details shown in the official cashier, never to an address someone gives you by chat, and play at licensed sites. Accepted e-Transfers are usually final, so double-check before confirming. More tips are in our payment security guide.

Cons
- Per-transfer and daily bank caps limit high-stakes play
- Manual transfers need the exact reference code
- Some bank plans charge per transfer
- Hard to reverse a payment sent in error
- Fake e-Transfer notices are a common phishing tactic

Responsible play
Because e-Transfer deposits take seconds, it is worth building in some friction. Set a CAD budget before you play, use the casino's deposit limits and cool-off tools, and consider lowering your own e-Transfer limit in your banking app. Recreational winnings are generally not taxed in Canada; see our taxes guide. If gambling stops being fun, our responsible gambling page lists helplines across Canada.
Frequently asked questions
Can I deposit at an online casino with Interac e-Transfer?
Yes. Many casinos that accept Canadian players offer e-Transfer, usually through a payment processor, including Ontario-regulated sites. Confirm availability in each cashier.
Why hasn't my e-Transfer casino deposit shown up?
Most deposits appear within minutes. If yours has not, check that you used the exact reference and amount, then contact casino support with your e-Transfer reference number.
Do I need Autodeposit to receive casino winnings?
No, but it helps. With Autodeposit the payout lands in your account automatically; without it, you accept the transfer from the notification and answer the security question.
What happens if I don't accept a casino payout e-Transfer?
An e-Transfer that is not accepted within 30 days expires and is returned to the sender. Contact the casino to have it reissued.
What is the maximum I can send by e-Transfer to a casino?
It depends on your bank's sending limits and the casino's maximum deposit, and the lower figure applies. Check your banking app for your exact limits.
Does my bank charge for e-Transfers to a casino?
It depends on your account plan. Many chequing plans include e-Transfers at no charge, while some basic accounts charge a small fee per transfer.
Who is the recipient when I send an e-Transfer to a casino?
Usually a payment processor working for the casino, not the casino itself. Use only the recipient details shown in the official cashier.
Is a bank wire better than e-Transfer for withdrawals?
A wire can move larger sums in one payment but is usually slower and may involve fees. For typical amounts, e-Transfer is generally quicker where the casino supports it.
